Different Treatments for Different Molds

Unfortunately not all molds are created equal and therefore not all molds can be treated in the same way. For effective mold mildew removal there are a few steps you need to take before taking further cleaning action. Below are some of the steps you should take if you discover mold in your home. You won’t necessarily have to follow all the steps, rather just the ones that apply to your personal situation.

Step 1 – Identify your mold.

There are many different molds around but only a couple that spring up regularly in a domestic environment. Nevertheless you must determine which type you have before taking any further steps. Typically you will find the mild and mainly harmless mold called mildew. This mold looks and sometimes smells pretty awful but can be treated easily with the minimum of fuss. Occasionally however a home can become infected by toxic black mold. This is a far more serious matter and must be dealt with using care.

Step 2 – Decide on best removal technique

If you have mildew then you can easily pick up a mildew cleaner in one of your local stores. There are a number of different products on the market of varying strengths. If you are dealing with black mold you can go one of two ways. With a small outbreak you can try to remedy the situation yourself but will need to buy a specialist black mold removal product. If the job is a big one you really must call in the professionals to avoid making the problem worse and endangering your health and that of your family.

Step 3 – Future prevention

If there was an underlying problem that allowed the mold to grow and spread in the first place then please, please, please make fixing that problem a number one priority. Don’t spend time removing mold only to have them return with a couple of weeks because a problem still exists in your home.
